Welcome to Pedaling For Pits!
What is Pedaling for Pits?
Pedaling for pits is a 2500 mile self funded solo bike ride to raise money to help the rescue group,  BAD
RAP (Bay Area Dog Lovers Responsible About Pit Bulls) care for the dogs that come to them for
placement and rehabilitation,  which has included some of the Michael Vick Dogs.  Bad Rap is also
instrumental in providing education for the public and dog training classes for pit bull owners.  They  do
free vaccination clinics for pit bulls in underfunded areas and provide free spay and neuter vouchers, plus
a great deal more.
Starting on September 9th 2009, I will ride my bicycle from Denver, Colorado to Oakland, California (home
of
BAD RAP) and back with only my cell phone as back-up.  I am looking for sponsors to raise as much as
I can for that most loving and spirited dog breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier.

Pay-Pal
Hi, I'm  Jett, and I live in Denver, CO. I grew up
surfing and cycling in Virginia Beach, where I
inherited my love of animals from my mother.
I bike everywhere I go, and was inspired to take a
long  trip when I heard about a cyclist that rode from
California to Washington DC for the Presidential
Inauguration.  I have always said, "I believe in
moderation as long as there is a lot of it."  It occurred
to me that I would like to do a fund raiser for
American Pit Bull Terriers since my own dog Jordan's
best friend is one.  Pit bulls are banned in Denver,
and Jordan's best friend had to move with her owner
to Alamosa, Colorado.  (She was lucky, Denver has
killed over 1200 dogs since the ban went  back into
effect in 2005.)
Recently I have begun training in earnest.  I take
cycling classes 3 times a week at the YMCA and put
in at least 300 miles a week in the foothills around
Denver. I will continue to write about my progress on
this site.
Please remember, whether you're are going
2500 miles, or just for a ride around the block.
Always
wear your bike helmet!

Jett's Route

Jett's will start out of Denver on September 9th following U.S. Highway 40 to Idaho Springs and continue from
there, to Steam Boat Springs.  Then across northern Colorado to Craig, on to Dinosaur which is the last
town in Colorado. Jett will enter Utah on HWY 40 and continue to Vernal,  then west to Heber City. From
Heber City he will take HWY 189 into Provo. South of Provo Jett will continue on HWY 6 to Delta Utah where
he will pick up HWY 50. Jett will head south west on HWY 50 to Ely Nevada. He will cross Nevada on US 50
"The loneliest road in America" reaching Carson City and crossing the Sierra Nevada into California. After
ascending  the Echo Summit, he will ride west down into Sacramento. From here Jett will proceed along the
Sacramento River on HWY 160 until he reaches HWY 4. From HWY 4 he will enter Pittsburgh and catch
HWY 24 into Oakland the end of the journey. This is a distance of just over 1250 miles. Jett plans to return
via the same route for a total riding distance of 2500 miles! Jett plans to arrive in Oakland on the 24th of
September.
